There are two reasons for why we work. The first reason sums up being the motivations while the second reason is the reward that drives our intentions towards our work. Motivations play a vital role in making us the move towards the required steps that enable us to do the work. Motivations include everything that we can think of; from the speck of sand to the highest altitude mountains. They provide the push that moves us forward on our professional tracks. Rewards are the second reason to why we work, and these, at later stages, become the primary sources that base our motivations. Therefore, irrespective of what motivation drives the nature of your work it is very important to first understand and differentiate the meaning of rewards.
Are incomes and benefits sole rewards for our work? Incomes and benefits primarily allow people to access other products and services that help them in scheduling their life, support their family and make them produce better goods and services. But when one works solely for incomes and benefits it tends to create an imbalance in the society. This happens because when a person explicitly works for generating high incomes and benefits which they consider as their primary reward while ignoring the required discipline and standards it, directly or indirectly, slowly makes a society sick and underdeveloped.
Irrespective of the magnitude of a work, every single person is equally responsible to the society as much as the society is responsible to him. Therefore, it is important to understand that our work is our first responsibility towards the society in which we live. Also, the real reward for a work is not what that comes in form of incomes and benefits but it rather gets reflected through the society. It must be remembered that the better one works and produces aids in some form and time to make ones own life easy. Otherwise, the work that makes society sick hits back in time and some form to the person who does it.
‘Our work is a duty towards self and family, a responsibility towards the society and respect towards life.’
What is income?
Income is defined as the money or something equivalent that recur to a person, business or nation in return for producing goods and services or upon an investment. Income is the sum total of wages, profits, interests, rents etc. The primary function or goal of an income is to fund daily expenditures that enable the production of more and better goods and services.
What are benefits?
Benefits are advantages and privileges that are provided along with regular incomes. These normally include housing, insurance, retirement benefits, social securities, conveyance etc. Benefits provide the ease and security to a person, business or nation to carry its production activities irrespective of the risks involved. Perks are also a kind of special benefits which are provided on basis of performance and seniority.
What are rewards?
Generally, rewards are special incomes and benefits that are given away for exceptional or even outstanding performances and contributions. They mark the magnitude of the effect of a performance or contribution. It is better and even critical to differentiate rewards from regular incomes and benefits so as to answer typical questions to existence, life and nature. Moreover, it helps in developing a nature of responsibility and mutual respect that further aids the diversity of life to co-exist and evolve.
